Christmas 2009

We had a great Christmas this year.

The boys were sick, but they rallied to open presents.

We read the The First Christmas story and then The Night Before Christmas. We sprinkled reindeer food on the lawn, left cookies for Santa, and then jumped into bed.

The boys woke up and found a Geotrax train set in the living room. Santa must have been here about...I'd guess....possibly....3 and 1/2 hours trying to set it up!

It was so much fun to see their faces when they saw it. It took us most of the morning to open presents because we had to stop and play with everything.

Aunt Suzanne got a Wii, sweater and necklace for Christmas.

We also got a beautiful piece of pottery from the Knocke's.

Reid got an accordion from Cousin Kara! (EVERYONE...including the adults loved playing with this one!)

Quinn got a real HUGE Blackhawk helicopter from Cousin

Grant. It looks so real!! Very cool!! It is just like the one he flew on in Afghanistan!

Daddy got a new putter, golf balls, shirts, and a tree trimmer! Looking at this picture, maybe Santa should have brought a new pair of jeans. Hee hee.

GB got a Snugglie and some nightgowns.

Grandpa got Sirus radio and some new jeans.

My Mom's Group Christmas Party

For the third year in a row, my Mom's group has a Christmas party/cookie and ornament exchange. I look forward to this all year. We actually hang up our sweats and jeans and dust off our nicest dresses! We put away our Goldfish and grapes and bring out the wine and appetizers! It is so much fun. I love these women! We've become such good friends! However, the claws come out when it comes to stealing ornaments!! Hee hee. What fun! I got a great ornament that says, "Make a wish..." It is a glass ball with rolled up little pieces of paper inside and you make a wish for the next year! My wish is to keep these girls in my life!!

Reid's Letter to Santa

We finally got around to writing our letters to Santa.

Reid was SOOO proud of his letter and so was I!

I was reading his little list from when he was two years old.

Santa was at Bass Pro Shop

We went to Bass Pro Shop today to take pictures and chat with Santa. We told him that we would have cookies ready for him! Now we'll get, "How many days until Christmas?" about 13 times a day! This age is soooooooo fun!!

Military Helicopters

These military Helicopters were flying over our house over and over. I think they passed over about 11 or 12 times. The kids loved it! Every time they went over, they ran outside yelling, "Here they come!" We still aren't sure what they were doing! Janice, are these the same helicopters that Grant flew?

A moment of silence ...

So while we were playing outside in the snow, Quinn yelled, "Mommy, what happened?" I went to look and a little lizard was laying on our patio... apparently dead (he was shedding his skin). Reid said, "Should we say a prayer?" Quinn stared singing the prayer we sing before our meals. "God our Father, God our Father, once again, once again, we are here to thank you, we are here to thank you...Amen, Amen. So sweet. (He wasn't dead after all...a few hours later he crawled away. The boys were very happy about that.

Let it SNOW!!!

It snowed here today!! The weather man said it would, but I just didn't believe it! I woke up early, saw the flurries, took the boys to the store, and bought jackets (a little too big, because we will only wear them a few times this year). As we were leaving the store, it really started coming down. We got home and headed straight to the back yard.

This is a hibiscus in our yard with the first bit of snow on it. I love the colors!

I wonder how many plants we will loose?

Check out Reid's big snowball. The kids was so excited about snowball fights. It is something they have read about in books, but really didn't know how much fun it would be to attack mom. So much fun!

Of course, we had to build a snowman!

When we went out in the morning the kids got wet and cold. Of course, if we didn't have coats, we certainly didn't have waterproof gloves, pants, or shoes. So when we came in to dry off, mom told me to put plastic bread bags over their socks and baggies over their gloves...genius idea!! We were able to stay out for two hours!

Here we are at the end of the day...Reid still wants to play snowball fight and Quinn wants nothing to do with it ... especially when he is the one getting hit. So....

he just needed to cry it out for a while.

Never fear...we still love each other!

Snow???

We are predicted to get snow today. I can't believe it! I better go out and buy some coats for the boys after all!!

Winter Fest

Mom and Dad called us as we were driving back to Texas and told us that the Winter Fest was going to be Saturday night. Since we pass right by there house on the way home, we were able to make it an hour before it started!! I'm so glad we did. The boys always have fun and this year they were old enough to slide down the snow!! (It also gave us one more rest before we headed home!)

217. We were out eating Mexican food and Quinn wanted to know if he could drink some of our "Applesauce"!

216. I was trying to spell so the kids didn't know what I was saying. I was looking up "The Avengers" on movie ratings for kids and I said to Matt, "Do you think the A.V.E.N.G.E.R.S. would be Ok?". He said, "I don't I think so, I think it is like T.R.A.N.S.F.O.R.M.E.R.S." I said, "I think it might be more like S.T.A.R. W.A.R.S." Then Quinn said, "Mommy, I think The Avengers is more like Star Wars and not like the Transformers!" Well, there you go!

215. Tonight the boys were "play fighting" and Quinn kicked Reid in the family jewels. Of course with lots of crying, Matt explained to Quinn how badly that hurts boys. Meanwhile I was talking with Reid. Reid said, "Daddy told us one time that if we hit those little balls in there too hard we won't be able to have babies. Quinn told me one day that he was going to try and pop his bubbles!!

214. We were talking this morning about playing basketball against a team. The boys said, "We played them one time and one boy on their team is really good." I told them that it is good because if we play people that are better than us we get even better! Quinn thought about it for awhile and said, "He's good at playing basketball and we're not so why is he playing against us if we aren't very good?"

212. "Just think, in 4 years you could have 7 grandkids!" ~ Big Charlie talking to Matt when we found out his parents are only 5 years older than us! Sooooo funny!

211. We've been doing several food drives for different communities. We've also been selling cookie dough and other food items for a fund raiser. I told Reid that I needed to deliver food to our friends down in Clear Lake and he said, "...because they don't have enough food to eat!"

When Reid saw the storks bringing the babies, he wanted to know if that is how babies were born a long time ago. Quinn said, "Did he watch TV all day or play on the computer too much?"

I told them the good thing about a cat is you can pet them and then they go and play by themselves, but the bad thing is that you can't really play with them. The good thing about a dog is they will play with you, but the bad thing is that they want to play all the time. Reid said, "So what is the bad thing about a dog?" (Apparently, playing all the time isn't considered a bad thing when you are four years old.)

Reid said, "I'll show you... you know, Mommy didn't know how to do it at first either. She had to practice and practice and practice. That is what you have to do, too. Just practice and practice and practice.

Seriously, he beat me EVERY game we played that morning...fair and square!

23. Reid and I were talking about numbers and I told him that they go on forever and ever and never stop. You can count forever and never get to the end. He said, "Just like the lights on the dance mat. They never end either!" Yup, just like that!!

21. We went to church on Christmas Eve. On our way out a lady was passing out chocolate Santa Clauses. I told the boys they could hold them and have them after dinner. Reid did. When we turned into our neighborhood we turned around and Quinn had a big chocolate smile. He had eaten through the tin foil (sounds like a puppy!) I said, "Quinn, what are you doing?" He replied, "Anything!!" (That means 'I'm not doing anything') Hmmmmm. 12-24-08

20. We've been reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas every night for about 3 weeks now. The boys know it by heart.

He had a broad face and a little round belly that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

19. We saw a man fixing the car-wash and I told the boys he was filling it back up with soap. Reid said, "...and appetizers, too!" I asked him what appetizers were and he said, "I don't know, but grownups say it!" (We've been bringing lots of appetizers to parties lately!!)

18. "You got to move it, move it. You got to move it, move it! Rudolph red nose reindeer...hmmm hmmm...hiny nose." ~ Quinn sings instead of napping.

17. "I'm hungry!! I want some oatmeal!!"~ Quinn, right after eating toast, two eggs and strawberries. "There is some under your plate...(Quinn looks)...I was just pretending."~ Reid

16. "I want to see Rudolph at the North Pole...sit on Santa's lap. I want to see Rudolph and Santa Claus at the North Pole. I want to do that!" ~ Quinn

15. "Be careful with the "Chrima" tree?" ~ Quinn after taking some of the ornaments off the tree. (I have a feeling it is going to be a long 23 days.)

14. "That's the biggest tree in the world I didn't see in a long time! Is is snowing?" ~ Reid when he woke up and saw that we put our tree up while he was sleeping.

13. We were on our way to the Winter Fest and Quinn was crying about something. Reid was ready to go, but knew we were having a hard time getting out of the house with Quinn. He said, "Just pick Quinn up, Daddy!" (Maybe I've said that once or twice, too!)

12. Reid and Quinn both have a bad cough. We think it is croup. Reid was saying that he couldn't quit coughing and his throat hurt. Matt said, "You just have a little bug." Reid got the strangest look on his face and said, "Did it crawl down my throat?" Of course, we both started laughing and tried to explain what he meant and that is wasn't a real bug. But right in the middle of our explanation, he said, "Was it a dead bug?" Poor guy...now he will have nightmares!

11. "You do not do that. When Daddy says to not do that you don't not doing that. Do you understand? " ~ Daddy (Mommy laughing) "No." ~ Quinn "The right answer is 'yes', Quinn" ~ Daddy (laughing)

9. "My pacifier is broke!!" ~ Quinn when we cut the tip off of his pacifier. We are trying to get rid of it. So sad!!

7. "I would like some lemonems. I would like some emenlems." ~ Reid asking for M&M's. He wasn't sure what they were called.

3. "Are those poopy diapers up there?" ~ Reid as we were walking in our neighborhood and he saw ghosts in the trees. They were made with white plastic trash bags and balls for heads.

2. "I'm not sleepy, I just don't want to see anything!" ~ Reid's reply to me when I told him he was sleepy and needed a nap because his eyes kept closing.
