Swim lessons!!

Day 2 of swim lessons and the boys can float on their back by themselves! They can't quite flip over by themselves, yet. They were excited and then a little nervous, but by day 2 they both loved it! Quinn said, "I want to do it again and again and again!" It also helps that they get little lolly pops at the end.

Ok, as a mom, there are certain times that will just stay with you. This was one of them. The parents sit on the other side of the window where we can watch but the kids can't really see us. So as I was watching the lesson, I saw Quinn put his face in the water first and he was a little anxious. When he came up, Reid looked at him like he was so proud and patted him on the back and gave him a big smile. This was taken right after that! He did it several times during the lesson. Sweet babies!! I love what happens when no one knows you are watching!

Quinn's first words!

He and Reid were drawing and writing words on each side of the easel.

When Quinn looked at his picture he said,

"Oops, my "H" has two lines and my "s" looks like a 2."

Jenny's Questions...

This last week, my friend, Jenny, babysat for the kids while I was in New York.

My Mommy

I really love it when my Mommy takes me to the zoo.

My Mommy likes to wear her bathing suit. (There has never been a truer statement.. Hee hee)

My mommy always tells me stories.

The best thing she does is water the plants.

It makes her happy when I give her flowers. (sweet!)

My Mommy loves to relax on the bed.

The best thing she cooks is nuggets.

When my Mommy shops she likes to buy eggs.

My Mommy's favorite household chore is to sweep and to mop. (I do it enough...no wonder he thinks it's my favorite.)

My Mommy's favorite TV show is a Mommy show. (They are always saying they want to watch a boy's show.)

If she could go on a trip, she would go to Hawaii.

I love my Mommy because I love her.

I really love it when my Daddy goes in the ocean.

T-Ball!!

We had T-Ball last night and it was so much fun!! The kids had a blast and we did too. I never thought I'd get into it this much, but it is so fun to watch them "get it"!

Camping at Lake Summerville!

I was working in Brooklyn on Thursday and Friday and didn't get home until 5:00 am on Saturday morning. (Mechanical problems...of course!) On Friday night, Matt and the boys took Mom back to Conroe. I met them there on Saurday morning and we took two cars to Summerville. We left for Summerville at 9:30 am on Saturday! Hopefully next time we go, we will be able to say 2-3 nights.

The boys are a perfect age and have so much fun!

The best part of camping.... s'mores (and wine)!!

Stewart and Matt took the kids on a trail and they snuck up on us from behind and scared us!

Charlie and Gabriel fell asleep on the boat after a day of tubing!

All clean and ready for bed! It is so fun to sleep in a tent!

There were lots of storms that came through during the night. It was right on top of us. We only had a small leak in our tent. Everyone stayed dry. (All of the kids slept right through the ground shaking and everything..even 4 month old baby Natalie!)

When we got back home...we went shopping for a better tent and a stove!!

We can't wait to go again. The kids loved it!!

Cheryl & Mike stopped by for a visit and we got to sit on his motorcycle!

Reid and Quinn's Quotes

217. We were out eating Mexican food and Quinn wanted to know if he could drink some of our "Applesauce"!

216. I was trying to spell so the kids didn't know what I was saying. I was looking up "The Avengers" on movie ratings for kids and I said to Matt, "Do you think the A.V.E.N.G.E.R.S. would be Ok?". He said, "I don't I think so, I think it is like T.R.A.N.S.F.O.R.M.E.R.S." I said, "I think it might be more like S.T.A.R. W.A.R.S." Then Quinn said, "Mommy, I think The Avengers is more like Star Wars and not like the Transformers!" Well, there you go!

215. Tonight the boys were "play fighting" and Quinn kicked Reid in the family jewels. Of course with lots of crying, Matt explained to Quinn how badly that hurts boys. Meanwhile I was talking with Reid. Reid said, "Daddy told us one time that if we hit those little balls in there too hard we won't be able to have babies. Quinn told me one day that he was going to try and pop his bubbles!!

214. We were talking this morning about playing basketball against a team. The boys said, "We played them one time and one boy on their team is really good." I told them that it is good because if we play people that are better than us we get even better! Quinn thought about it for awhile and said, "He's good at playing basketball and we're not so why is he playing against us if we aren't very good?"

213. "I guess one of my taste buds fell out!" ~ Reid

212. "Just think, in 4 years you could have 7 grandkids!" ~ Big Charlie talking to Matt when we found out his parents are only 5 years older than us! Sooooo funny!

211. We've been doing several food drives for different communities. We've also been selling cookie dough and other food items for a fund raiser. I told Reid that I needed to deliver food to our friends down in Clear Lake and he said, "...because they don't have enough food to eat!"

210. "Is that how people had babies a long time ago?" ~ Reid. We were watching Dumbo and I said that I loved that movie when I was a little girl. When Reid saw the storks bringing the babies, he wanted to know if that is how babies were born a long time ago. I explained that the way you have babies has always been the same, but that is how parents use to explain it a long time ago!

209. "Reid erupted me!" ~ Quinn when Reid kept talking over him.

208. Quinn and I were on our way to school and I asked him where he would like to go if he could go anywhere in the world. He said, "You mean when I'm married, have kids and you and Daddy are dead?"

206. "I think not on the first day." ~ Quinn when I asked him if he was going to talk in school. (He is usually pretty quiet the first week. Found out that he is doing great and talking!

203. We were talking about going to the art museum. Then we talked about some of the artists they learned about at school as they were getting ready for their art show. Reid said, "Who was the artist that cut off his ear? He gave it to a girl as a gift." (ok...I didn't know that part) I said that it was Van Gogh. Then, of course I had to go into a somewhat lengthy explanation of why he would do that. I explained that sometimes people's bodies are sick, but Van Gogh's mind was sick and that made him do things that people wouldn't normally do. Quinn said, "Did he watch TV all day or play on the computer too much?"

202. "Looks like somebody already did!" ~Reid, when we were in the art museum. We were looking at old Greek statues with missing arms and heads and I told him to be careful not to touch anything!

148. The boys have been talking about wanting to get a pet. Quinn wants a cat and Reid wants a dog. I told them the good thing about a cat is you can pet them and then they go and play by themselves, but the bad thing is that you can't really play with them. The good thing about a dog is they will play with you, but the bad thing is that they want to play all the time. Reid said, "So what is the bad thing about a dog?" (Apparently, playing all the time isn't considered a bad thing when you are four years old.)

147. "What till Daddy sees us. He is going to say, "How are you doing that in the world!" ~ Quinn (I think he meant to say "How in the world are you doing that?")

"Well, I pushed you out." ~ Mommy

145. GB is here helping out while I'm traveling this week. The boys wanted to watch a show while she made dinner. GB said, "Reid, I haven't worked this remote in a while, and Mommy didn't show me before she left. I'm not sure if I know how to do it."

Reid said, "I'll show you... you know, Mommy didn't know how to do it at first either. She had to practice and practice and practice. That is what you have to do, too. Just practice and practice and practice.

144. "Quinn lost a tooth!! Look, Mommy, it looks like Quinn lost a tooth!"~ Reid commenting on the space between Quinn's two front teeth! Cracks me up...he just noticed?

143. "To infinity and beyond!! ... God our Father, God our Father...." ~ Quinn in his bedroom instead of sleeping.

142. "My face looks mean." Quinn drawing a smiley face on a heart for a Valentine's Day card.

"It still looks mean." after Mommy tried to fix it.

"It looks like she is ready to fight!" Quinn still concerned about the smiley face.

140. "That's a brilliant idea!!!" ~ Reid talking about building a fort in the living room.

138. "I did a good job and this was the first night! We should tell everybody in the whole world!" ~ Reid about going potty at night and not in his nighttime pull-up!

137. "I don't have to go potty, I'm just dancing." ~ Quinn

132. I was making a complicated dinner and had to chop, steam, saute, grill, and bake all at the same time. Reid was hungry and kept asking when we were going to have dinner. I said, "Reid, do you have any idea what all it takes to make this dinner?" He said, "Yes, it takes too much time!"

131. "When I grow up I'm going to find a nice girl and get married and build a house."~ Reid.

67. We were praying for all of our friends and family and we got to the end of the list and Matt said, "Is there anyone else you would like to pray for?" The kids came up with a few more people and then Quinn said, "Pray for Daddy's HAIR!"

He said, "Ok, let me look at the directions (as he pulled them out of the box). Ok, let me see...it says to play two times and I think I'm going to win." Seriously, he beat me EVERY game we played that morning...fair and square!

23. Reid and I were talking about numbers and I told him that they go on forever and ever and never stop. You can count forever and never get to the end. He said, "Just like the lights on the dance mat. They never end either!" Yup, just like that!!

21. We went to church on Christmas Eve. On our way out a lady was passing out chocolate Santa Clauses. I told the boys they could hold them and have them after dinner. Reid did. When we turned into our neighborhood we turned around and Quinn had a big chocolate smile. He had eaten through the tin foil (sounds like a puppy!) I said, "Quinn, what are you doing?" He replied, "Anything!!" (That means 'I'm not doing anything') Hmmmmm. 12-24-08

20. We've been reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas every night for about 3 weeks now. The boys know it by heart.

"I like cherries!" ~ Reid

"I like chicken nuggets! ~Quinn

He had a broad face and a little round belly that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

"I like jelly!" ~ Quinn

19. We saw a man fixing the car-wash and I told the boys he was filling it back up with soap. Reid said, "...and appetizers, too!" I asked him what appetizers were and he said, "I don't know, but grownups say it!" (We've been bringing lots of appetizers to parties lately!!)

18. "You got to move it, move it. You got to move it, move it! Rudolph red nose reindeer...hmmm hmmm...hiny nose." ~ Quinn sings instead of napping.

17. "I'm hungry!! I want some oatmeal!!"~ Quinn, right after eating toast, two eggs and strawberries. "There is some under your plate...(Quinn looks)...I was just pretending."~ Reid

16. "I want to see Rudolph at the North Pole...sit on Santa's lap. I want to see Rudolph and Santa Claus at the North Pole. I want to do that!" ~ Quinn

15. "Be careful with the "Chrima" tree?" ~ Quinn after taking some of the ornaments off the tree. (I have a feeling it is going to be a long 23 days.)

14. "That's the biggest tree in the world I didn't see in a long time! Is is snowing?" ~ Reid when he woke up and saw that we put our tree up while he was sleeping.

13. We were on our way to the Winter Fest and Quinn was crying about something. Reid was ready to go, but knew we were having a hard time getting out of the house with Quinn. He said, "Just pick Quinn up, Daddy!" (Maybe I've said that once or twice, too!)

12. Reid and Quinn both have a bad cough. We think it is croup. Reid was saying that he couldn't quit coughing and his throat hurt. Matt said, "You just have a little bug." Reid got the strangest look on his face and said, "Did it crawl down my throat?" Of course, we both started laughing and tried to explain what he meant and that is wasn't a real bug. But right in the middle of our explanation, he said, "Was it a dead bug?" Poor guy...now he will have nightmares!

11. "You do not do that. When Daddy says to not do that you don't not doing that. Do you understand? " ~ Daddy (Mommy laughing) "No." ~ Quinn "The right answer is 'yes', Quinn" ~ Daddy (laughing)

10. "My pacifier is BROOOOOOKE!! ~ Quinn

9. "My pacifier is broke!!" ~ Quinn when we cut the tip off of his pacifier. We are trying to get rid of it. So sad!!

8. "I want to go to Taco-ba-Vana." ~ Quinn requesting a dinner location.

7. "I would like some lemonems. I would like some emenlems." ~ Reid asking for M&M's. He wasn't sure what they were called.

6. "I want Cheerios and Jesus." ~ Quinn when we told him that he had to put down his snack before we went into church.

3. "Are those poopy diapers up there?" ~ Reid as we were walking in our neighborhood and he saw ghosts in the trees. They were made with white plastic trash bags and balls for heads.

2. "I'm not sleepy, I just don't want to see anything!" ~ Reid's reply to me when I told him he was sleepy and needed a nap because his eyes kept closing.
