Our Vacation to Colorado at the end of July was a perfect trip with the boys at this age! We had such a good time and we are still talking about it! Matt, of course did a wonderful job planning it!

We love each other...sometimes!

No kidding...there were 6 adults and 2 kids is this little elevator. We were all squished together. When we loaded on, I had a little panic attack. I almost had to get out. They said it would take 2 minutes to do down into the mine.

My birthday present...a present only a math teacher could love!

My birthday present for today!!

Earlier in the day I told Reid that his birthday was in a week and a half....

The conversation tonight....

Reid: How many days are in a week? 7 right?

Mommy: Yes.

Reid: Well, how many days are in half of a week?

Mommy: I don’t know, what do you think?

Reid: Well, seven is an odd number.

Mommy: How do you know?

Reid: Three plus three is six. So how can I find a half of a week if a week is seven days and seven is an odd number?

(This is when I pulled out unifix cubes)

He split the cubes in two sets of three and had the one left between them.

Mommy: Well, what do we do with this one?

Reid: It can't be four, so split that one in half and then you have 3 and a half on each side.

Reid: Can we send this to our friends so they will know how to do it if they want to know what a half of a week is?

Marbling Paint Project

This evening we made a journal.

We are trying out a painting technique we are going to use with our playgroup on Thursday.

You start off with a layer of shaving cream, add dots of paint, swirl or marble with a stick...

press down and then lift the journal off of the paint/shaving cream,

scrape off the shaving cream and ....

TA-DA... a beautiful journal!!

Houston Museum of Art

We were at the Houston Museum of Art yesterday. The whole time we were looking at exhibits people kept giving us "gentle reminders" about staying 12 inches away and not touching anything. We came to a new section with Roman and Greek statues. So when we walked into this room, I said, "Now guys, remember, it is very important not to touch anything is this room!" Reid pointed to a statue with no arms and said, "Looks like somebody already did!"

Reid and Quinn's Quotes

217. We were out eating Mexican food and Quinn wanted to know if he could drink some of our "Applesauce"!

216. I was trying to spell so the kids didn't know what I was saying. I was looking up "The Avengers" on movie ratings for kids and I said to Matt, "Do you think the A.V.E.N.G.E.R.S. would be Ok?". He said, "I don't I think so, I think it is like T.R.A.N.S.F.O.R.M.E.R.S." I said, "I think it might be more like S.T.A.R. W.A.R.S." Then Quinn said, "Mommy, I think The Avengers is more like Star Wars and not like the Transformers!" Well, there you go!

215. Tonight the boys were "play fighting" and Quinn kicked Reid in the family jewels. Of course with lots of crying, Matt explained to Quinn how badly that hurts boys. Meanwhile I was talking with Reid. Reid said, "Daddy told us one time that if we hit those little balls in there too hard we won't be able to have babies. Quinn told me one day that he was going to try and pop his bubbles!!

214. We were talking this morning about playing basketball against a team. The boys said, "We played them one time and one boy on their team is really good." I told them that it is good because if we play people that are better than us we get even better! Quinn thought about it for awhile and said, "He's good at playing basketball and we're not so why is he playing against us if we aren't very good?"

213. "I guess one of my taste buds fell out!" ~ Reid

212. "Just think, in 4 years you could have 7 grandkids!" ~ Big Charlie talking to Matt when we found out his parents are only 5 years older than us! Sooooo funny!

211. We've been doing several food drives for different communities. We've also been selling cookie dough and other food items for a fund raiser. I told Reid that I needed to deliver food to our friends down in Clear Lake and he said, "...because they don't have enough food to eat!"

210. "Is that how people had babies a long time ago?" ~ Reid. We were watching Dumbo and I said that I loved that movie when I was a little girl. When Reid saw the storks bringing the babies, he wanted to know if that is how babies were born a long time ago. I explained that the way you have babies has always been the same, but that is how parents use to explain it a long time ago!

Then, of course I had to go into a somewhat lengthy explanation of why he would do that. I explained that sometimes people's bodies are sick, but Van Gogh's mind was sick and that made him do things that people wouldn't normally do. Quinn said, "Did he watch TV all day or play on the computer too much?"

I told them the good thing about a cat is you can pet them and then they go and play by themselves, but the bad thing is that you can't really play with them. The good thing about a dog is they will play with you, but the bad thing is that they want to play all the time. Reid said, "So what is the bad thing about a dog?" (Apparently, playing all the time isn't considered a bad thing when you are four years old.)

Reid said, "I'll show you... you know, Mommy didn't know how to do it at first either. She had to practice and practice and practice. That is what you have to do, too. Just practice and practice and practice.

"Reid was thinking about me and I was thinking about him." ~ Quinn on their first day of school.

100. "It was my mouth." ~ Quinn after I asked if he tooted.

"Quinn, that wasn't your mouth...that sound came from your bottom!" ~ Reid

99. "No, no, no...you go clean up." ~ Quinn telling me to go away because he wanted to put on his shorts himself.

98. "I'm just going to worry about myself and not Quinn!" ~ Reid when he woke up before Quinn. I told him he could watch something while I worked. (I must say, you worry about yourself...a lot!)

97. "My head hurts and I have a fever right here." ~ Quinn pointing to his head and leg. He wanted a little attention because Reid wasn't feeling too good.

96. "I want some Raisin Bram!" ~ Quinn

85. "If you leave, I won't have any more mommies and daddies to talk to me." ~ Quinn as I was explaining that I was going away to work for a few days. Ok...now I'm really crying!

84. "When we were in your tummy and we were born, did we come out of your skin? How did we do that?" ~ Reid. We've been having a lot of birthday discussions. We even took out our baby tubs & baby books! They are getting so big!

83. "We don't know if it is a girl or a boy because we don't know it's name."~ Reid when I asked if he thought the elephant in the book was a boy or a girl. (I guess that is how you tell the difference...that and long hair apparently!)

82. "QUINN IS GOING TO CUT HIS PEE-PEE OFF!!" ~ Reid yelled to me while I was in the bathroom. They had been cutting paper in the morning. Quinn took off all of his clothes to go to the bathroom and when he returned, he was opening and closing the scissors in a dangerous area!

81. "Daddy, kiss Mommy on the face!"~ Quinn as we were all passing out hugs and kisses!

80. "It's an extremeless shark!" ~ Reid

"What is an extremeless shark?" ~ Mommy

"I don't know, I just wanted to say those words! ~ Reid

79. "This family needs another baby." ~ Reid

"It does?" ~ Mommy

"How did you get a baby in your tummy?" ~ Reid

"Well Mommy and Daddy love each other very much so God helped us get a baby in my tummy." ~ Mommy

"Well, how did God do that?~ Reid

"I'll look that up and get back to you!" ~ Mommy

78. "I want some privacy." ~ Quinn as he went potty.

"I went on the potty and my pee-pee got stuck."~ Quinn (still not sure what he means by this! A little concerning!)

77. "We have to go there, and then there, and then there, and then there, and then there, and then there, and then there, ... (30 times)" ~ Reid said in a crying voice as he pointed to calendar spaces until he reached his birthday.

76. "They said there were going to be characterSSS." ~ Reid wondering why there was only the cow at Chick-fil-a.

75. "What starts with the letter P that is not a potty word?" ~ Reid (We are having issues with this...already??)

74. "Daddy, come and check on me in 4 minutes...I may have a fever." ~ Reid needing a little attention while Quinn has a tummy ache.

73. "Maybe on the way home from the park some water leaked out of my cup and spilled into my underwear." ~ Reid explaining why his underwear was a little wet.

72. "I'm going to marry you, Mommy, when I get as big as you, I'm going to marry YOU!" ~ Reid "Why do you want to marry me?" ~ Mommy "Because at weddings there is supposed to be a mommy AND a daddy." ~ Reid

71. "Go put on your underwear...go put on your underwear...we aren't going to play until you put on your underwear!"~ Mommy

70. "But you can't pet a goldfish!" ~ Reid wanting to know if we could get a dog or cat for a pet.

69. "But Mommy, you went pee-pee in the lake when we were on the boat with Mrs. Sandra and Mr. Stewart." ~ Reid after I told him to go to the bathroom before we go to the pool! Great!

68. "What happened to our nap? Where did our nap go?" ~ Reid and Quinn after being on the boat all day. They were so tired!

67. We were praying for all of our friends and family and we got to the end of the list and Matt said, "Is there anyone else you would like to pray for?" The kids came up with a few more people and then Quinn said, "Pray for Daddy's HAIR!"

66. "Is he not very nice? Is he naughty? Is he a little naughty?" ~ Quinn when he sees characters in books without big smiles.

65. "If we are ever playing on the stairs and fall backwards and bust our head open...is Jesus there with us, too?" ~ Reid, asking me questions about Jesus after reading our Children's Bible.

64. "I did a popsicle recycle!" ~ Reid, trying to say he did a obstacle course with recycling bins. 5/9/09

63. "He still has a smile on his face!" ~ Reid, talking about the frog in the driveway that I accidently ran over.

62. "Quinn your head is just getting bigger!"~ Reid, explaining why Quinn's hat didn't fit.

61. "Are Quinn's eyes still rusty?"~ Reid, wondering if Quinn had pink eye.

60. "Where is the other kid's food pyramid?" ~ Reid when he wasn't really sure he liked the answer to why our bodies need healthy food. I believe he thought the top of the pyramid should be a little bigger!

59. "I like doing adventures with you, Mommy!" ~ Reid

57. "Can you do like this? Can you do this, Mommy? Can you do this? Can you do like this, Mommy? Can you do this?" ~ Reid and Quinn posing their Spiderman action figures to see if I could get into the same positions! The answer was always, "no!"

56. "Do we have any of those long things that make your fingers orange?" ~ Reid requesting "Cheetos"

55. "Mommy, are you 60?" ~ Reid. (Seriously, Reid???)

54. "Mommy, you look handsome!" ~ Reid (Wow, maybe I should wear makeup more often!)

53. "I'm going to get married with Quinn." ~ Reid when we asked if he would ever get married. Not sure if he meant to Quinn or with Quinn.

52. "That's the underwear pocket, Mommy." ~ Quinn, sticking his hand in the front flap in his new underwear.

51. "Maybe on special occasions the shopping man puts protein in our bread!" ~ Reid explaining to us why it would be ok to eat just bread for dinner. (Reid I'm there with you on that!)

50. "My bumper hurts...I need some cough medicine." ~ Quinn

48. "What T is it?" ~ Reid wanting to know what size his new shirt was. I believe he thinks that if it is 4T or 5T he is closer to a birthday.

24. Reid and I were playing "Sequence for Kids" and he beat me the first game. We shook hands and I said, "Good game, maybe I'll win the next one!" He said, "Ok, let me look at the directions (as he pulled them out of the box). Ok, let me see...it says to play two times and I think I'm going to win." Seriously, he beat me EVERY game we played that morning...fair and square!

23. Reid and I were talking about numbers and I told him that they go on forever and ever and never stop. You can count forever and never get to the end. He said, "Just like the lights on the dance mat. They never end either!" Yup, just like that!!

22. "I want to brush my teeth a-f-t-e-r we do naked dancing!" ~ Reid

21. We went to church on Christmas Eve. On our way out a lady was passing out chocolate Santa Clauses. I told the boys they could hold them and have them after dinner. Reid did. When we turned into our neighborhood we turned around and Quinn had a big chocolate smile. He had eaten through the tin foil (sounds like a puppy!) I said, "Quinn, what are you doing?" He replied, "Anything!!" (That means 'I'm not doing anything') Hmmmmm. 12-24-08

20. We've been reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas every night for about 3 weeks now. The boys know it by heart.

Every time I read...

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry.

I hear....

"I like cherries!" ~ Reid

"I like chicken nuggets! ~Quinn

He had a broad face and a little round belly that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

"I like jelly!" ~ Quinn

19. We saw a man fixing the car-wash and I told the boys he was filling it back up with soap. Reid said, "...and appetizers, too!" I asked him what appetizers were and he said, "I don't know, but grownups say it!" (We've been bringing lots of appetizers to parties lately!!)

18. "You got to move it, move it. You got to move it, move it! Rudolph red nose reindeer...hmmm hmmm...hiny nose." ~ Quinn sings instead of napping.

17. "I'm hungry!! I want some oatmeal!!"~ Quinn, right after eating toast, two eggs and strawberries. "There is some under your plate...(Quinn looks)...I was just pretending."~ Reid

16. "I want to see Rudolph at the North Pole...sit on Santa's lap. I want to see Rudolph and Santa Claus at the North Pole. I want to do that!" ~ Quinn

15. "Be careful with the "Chrima" tree?" ~ Quinn after taking some of the ornaments off the tree. (I have a feeling it is going to be a long 23 days.)

14. "That's the biggest tree in the world I didn't see in a long time! Is is snowing?" ~ Reid when he woke up and saw that we put our tree up while he was sleeping.

13. We were on our way to the Winter Fest and Quinn was crying about something. Reid was ready to go, but knew we were having a hard time getting out of the house with Quinn. He said, "Just pick Quinn up, Daddy!" (Maybe I've said that once or twice, too!)

12. Reid and Quinn both have a bad cough. We think it is croup. Reid was saying that he couldn't quit coughing and his throat hurt. Matt said, "You just have a little bug." Reid got the strangest look on his face and said, "Did it crawl down my throat?" Of course, we both started laughing and tried to explain what he meant and that is wasn't a real bug. But right in the middle of our explanation, he said, "Was it a dead bug?" Poor guy...now he will have nightmares!

11. "You do not do that. When Daddy says to not do that you don't not doing that. Do you understand? " ~ Daddy (Mommy laughing) "No." ~ Quinn "The right answer is 'yes', Quinn" ~ Daddy (laughing)

10. "My pacifier is BROOOOOOKE!! ~ Quinn

9. "My pacifier is broke!!" ~ Quinn when we cut the tip off of his pacifier. We are trying to get rid of it. So sad!!

8. "I want to go to Taco-ba-Vana." ~ Quinn requesting a dinner location.

7. "I would like some lemonems. I would like some emenlems." ~ Reid asking for M&M's. He wasn't sure what they were called.

6. "I want Cheerios and Jesus." ~ Quinn when we told him that he had to put down his snack before we went into church.

3. "Are those poopy diapers up there?" ~ Reid as we were walking in our neighborhood and he saw ghosts in the trees. They were made with white plastic trash bags and balls for heads.

2. "I'm not sleepy, I just don't want to see anything!" ~ Reid's reply to me when I told him he was sleepy and needed a nap because his eyes kept closing.
